“Teaching Beyond Academics is not just the title of the book or the seminar―it is a mission.” -Pastor Jobs Tolentino

July 27, 2019 ― Church Strengthening Ministry, Inc. conducted a timely and significant seminar for teachers entitled, “Teaching Beyond Academics” featuring Word for the World Christian Fellowship pastor Jobs Tolentino as resource speaker. Two hundred sixty four participants made up of both professional and Sunday school teachers as well as church volunteer workers from 38 churches, 19 schools and 5 independent organizations, attended the seminar which was held at the CSM Bldg., Pascor Drive, Sto. Nino, Paranaque City from 8 am to 4 pm.

He divided the seminar into four (4) parts: Developing the Most Important Habit, Gaining Students’ Respect, Building Students’ Self-esteem, and Integrating Good Values in All Subjects and Disciplines.

The speaker, who is also a Life Coach, a broadcaster at Life Talk on DXBC and the Founding Director of Infact Wisdom Resources, Inc., shared his deep passion and unwavering heart for teaching.

Below are some memorable quotes from the seminar:

“Highly effective teachers are passionate learners. They have that insatiable hunger and unquenchable thirst for learning. And that is why it is necessary to pursue self-growth and development.”

“Teaching Beyond Academics is a mission; therefore, a teacher is a missionary.”

“Every student should be perceived according to their uniqueness and beyond what people can see.”

“Students listen to the teacher they respect. When the students don’t respect their teacher, there is no room for learning.”

“What teachers should desire for the students is a heart transformation because ‘the heart of the matter is the matter of the heart.’”

Pastor Jobs discussed how students’ poor self-esteem negatively affects their personality and study habits as a whole. He presented insightful ideas and doable, practical examples on how to help students gain and build a healthy self-esteem. He also emphasized that integrating good values in all subjects and disciplines is by far one of the most challenging tasks of a teacher but is the approachhe must take in order to enable his students to succeed in life.

At the end of the seminar, Ms. Joy Solina, CSM’s VP for Publishing, led the attendees in praying for Pastor Jobs and his ministry. Pastor Jobs also promoted his book, Teaching Beyond Academics, and did book signing.

Many teachers and church volunteers expressed their appreciation for the seminar. Here are some of their comments:

“Very timely yung topic and challenging. Nakakatuwa kasi na-balance ni Pastor Jobs, practical and Biblical. I was reminded of the uniqueness of every individual.” –Mrs. Josephine Calanog, 54 y/o, Teacher at Living Lamp Academy, Cavite

“This is my first seminar and this is what I need right now. Kung alam mo na sa pagtuturo ka, go for it. No matter what happens, God will provide. Sobrang nakaka-refresh at kung babalik ako sa pagtuturo it will help a lot.” –Ms. AJ Pinglasan, 23 y/o, BSED English Major
